Durante trece temporadas, divididas en dos periodos, el Lcdo. Rodrigo Otero Suro presidió la Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico, marcando un estándar de excelencia que hasta el día de hoy sirve como referencia para quienes ocupan dicha posición. Su gestión se caracterizó por un compromiso inquebrantable con la mejora y promoción de nuestro béisbol, guiando a nuestra liga a niveles insospechados de éxito y prestigio.
Como presidente de la Confederación de Béisbol Profesional del Caribe, tuvo el mérito de revivir la Serie del Caribe en 1970, luego de nueve años de inactividad. Este logro no solo devolvió a la región un torneo emblemático, sino que también consolidó a Puerto Rico como un pilar en el desarrollo del béisbol caribeño.
La historia del béisbol en Puerto Rico no puede escribirse sin mencionar su contribución como cofundador de los Cangrejeros de Santurce en 1939, junto a su amigo Pedrín Zorrilla y otros entusiastas del béisbol. Este equipo, emblemático en nuestro país, es un testimonio vivo de su visión y amor por el deporte.
Por sus aportaciones, fue merecidamente reconocido en vida con el Premio Pedrín Zorrilla en 1987. Más tarde, recibió los más altos honores al ser exaltado al Pabellón de la Fama del Deporte Puertorriqueño en 1995 y al Salón de la Fama de la Serie del Caribe en 2003.
Sin embargo, su grandeza no se limitó al béisbol. En 1938, tuvo el honor de ser abanderado de Puerto Rico en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe en Ciudad de Panamá, representando a nuestra isla como miembro del equipo de baloncesto, demostrando así su habilidad como atleta y su orgullo patrio.

For thirteen seasons, divided into two periods, Rodrigo Otero Suro, Esq. presided over the Puerto Rico Professional Baseball League, setting a standard of excellence that still serves as a reference for those who occupy that position. His tenure was characterized by an unwavering commitment to improving and promoting our baseball, guiding our league to unsuspected levels of success and prestige.
As president of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation, he had the merit of reviving the Caribbean Series in 1970 after nine years of inactivity. This achievement returned an emblematic tournament to the region and consolidated Puerto Rico as a pillar in the development of Caribbean baseball.
The history of baseball in Puerto Rico cannot be written without mentioning his contribution as co-founder of the Santurce Cangrejeros in 1939, along with his friend Pedrín Zorrilla and other baseball enthusiasts. This team, emblematic of our country, is a living testimony of his vision and love for the sport.
He was recognized in life for his contributions with the Pedrín Zorrilla Prize in 1987. Later, he received the highest honors by being inducted into the Puerto Rican Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Caribbean Series Hall of Fame in 2003.
However, his greatness was not limited to baseball. In 1938, he was Puerto Rico’s flag bearer in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Panama City, representing our island as a basketball team member, thus demonstrating his ability as an athlete and his national pride.
