Ganador del Premio Pedrin Zorrilla en 1981 y 1985. En el 2011 fue recipiente del Premio Francisco¨Pancho¨ Coimbre y en 2013 fue seleccionado como uno de los mejores 75 jugadores de la Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico. Guió a los Leones de Ponce al campeonato en 2003-04 donde igualmente fue seleccionado Dirigente del Año y es el único dirigente en ganar un banderín y conectar al menos 100 jonrones. Además, es el único con 100+ jonrones y 100+ bases robadas. Electo al Pabellón de la Fama del Deporte Puertorriqueño en 1994 y al Salón de la Fama del Béisbol Profesional Puertorriqueño en 2022. En el 2013 fue seleccionado como uno de los mejores 75 jugadores de la Liga de Béisbol Profesional del Puerto Rico y en el 2023 al Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Desde el 2023-24, el Premio Jugador Más Valioso lleva su nombre.

Notably, he earned the title of Most Valuable Player in 1976-77 and led various statistical categories throughout his career, including hits in 1978-79 (78), triples in 1973-74 (6) and 1984-85 (4), home runs in 1981-82 (12), slugging in 1970-71 (.611), 1976-77 (.615), and 1984-85 (.506), runs scored in 1972-73 (44), 1976-77 (51), and 1981-82 (51), as well as stolen bases in 1978-79 (21). His career achievements speak volumes, ranking second in home runs (119), fifth in runs scored (567) and stolen bases (152), sixth in RBI (465), slugging percentage (.478), and total bases (1,478), ninth in triples (33), and tenth in hits (914) and doubles (141), the latter tying with Guillermo Montañez and Ramón L. “Wito” Conde. Honored with the Pedrín Zorrilla Award in 1981 and 1985, and the Francisco Coimbre Award in 2011, he was named one of the best 75 players in the Puerto Rico Professional Baseball League in 2013. His managerial prowess was evident when he led the Ponce Lions to victory in 2003-04, making him the sole manager to secure a pennant and hit over 100 home runs. Also that year, he was selected Manager of the Year. Further solidifying his legacy, he stands as the only individual with 100+ home runs and 100+ stolen bases. Inducted into the Puerto Rican Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, he continued to receive recognition in 2013 as one of the top 75 players in the Puerto Rico Professional Baseball League and was inducted into the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022. The following year, his contributions were further celebrated with his induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Notably, since the 2023-24 season, the Most Valuable Player Award has been named in his honor.
